The Alliance Defense Fund directly litigates carefully chosen, strategic cases to protect the freedom of religion, guard the sanctity of human life, and preserve marriage and traditional family values.
The purposes of ADF’s direct litigation include the following:
TrainingADF created an internal mentoring program in which new attorneys with the finest credentials are trained to litigate—and win—these crucial cases. Each attorney selected for ADF’s litigation mentoring program comes to us with the finest credentials: in addition to a history of excellent academic performance, they may have previous work experience with an allied organization, and may also be alumni of the ADF
Blackstone Legal Fellowship law student internship. Once trained, they add an invaluable legal resource to the alliance by serving at allied organizations, as ADF litigators, or as allied attorneys.
Expanding Our Resources and ReachADF's litigators work closely with
allied organizations and graduates of the
National Litigation Academy (NLA) to aggressively litigate complex cases that require particular expertise or several attorneys to litigate the matter to victory. This approach enables ADF to tackle complex issues—such as the defense of marriage, protecting Christian speech on university campuses, and defending the rights of pastors to speak freely on moral issues—on a scale too broad for almost any single organization to effectively manage.
Immediate ResponseADF's cadre of tested, tough (and God-centered) litigators undertake fast-breaking cases that demand immediate, direct court action. In many such cases the facts must be developed, papers drafted, and the attorneys must appear in court within a matter of hours.
