2. ADF continues fight to stop ‘two hours of free speech per week’ policy at SLU

The Alliance Defense Fund is asking the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit to rehear a ruling that allows Southeastern Louisiana University to continue enforcement of a permit requirement and two-hours-per-week “free speech” policy against an outside Christian speaker while his lawsuit proceeds in court.

3. ADF on striking down of National Day of Prayer statute: “It’s America’s heritage, and this day belongs to Americans”

Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund are urging President Obama to appeal a federal judge's decision in Wisconsin that struck down a federal statute that sets a day for the National Day of Prayer. The order does not affect presidential prayer proclamations and will not go into effect unless the decision still stands after all appeals are exhausted in the case.

5. Chicago outreach to Katrina victims wins 7th Circuit decision against city

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit issued an order Wednesday rendering a favorable decision to a Christian ministry that was blocked by the city of Chicago from using its property to help displaced Hurricane Katrina victims. ADF-allied attorney John Mauck represented the outreach in the lawsuit against the city and secured a ruling to claim its right protected by the U.S. Constitution to use its property, which has served as a community center for more than 80 years, for ministry purposes. ADF has provided funding for the case.

In September Christian leaders from across the country quietly gathered in New York to discuss the obligations and responsibilities of Christian citizens in our nation. Conversation continued and the result, announced November 20 in Washington, D.C., is a joint statement signed by 148 clergy, scholars, and ministry leaders, the “Manhattan Declaration.”
